Dog Training

Does Your Dog Need To Learn His Manners?

It can seem impossible to train your new puppy. However, training your dog is important not only for your pet’s safety, but for other people’s safety as well as your property’s safety. You must employ positive methods when training your dog. Both patience and consistency are required. Plan on spending at least 20 or 30 minutes a day training your puppy, because it will not be receptive for a longer period of time. The time should be between 15 and 30 minutes; any longer and the dog will lose interest.

Dog training requires generous rewards that are given correctly. Giving your dog treats at the right time and in the right amount is important. Your dog does not know why they are getting the reward unless you do it right after the positive behavior.

A main focus of training is timing your sessions appropriately. Shorter training sessions are better at the beginning of your program. When your dog loses interest, quit for the day.

It takes many repetitions before a dog is able to learn new commands. It may take 25-50 tries before your dog understands a command consistently and thoroughly. Be patient and say the same command in the same way each time. Your dog will learn eventually.

Your dog needs to get plenty of exercise. Dogs become bored very easily. Bored dogs are harder to train. Your dog is going to be a lot more attentive when it has received enough exercise. Go for long walks and runs with your dog.

The first thing you should teach your dog is to “leave it.” This commands the dog to drop whatever is in its mouth. This basic command is extremely helpful when your dog is chewing on something he shouldn’t and also helps to keep him away from dangerous items.

The first thing to do when training a dog is to establish that you are in control. If the dog does not understand that you have control he will ignore your commands and act with outright disobedience. Always walk in front, in the leadership position, letting your dog follow behind.

Be cognitive of the duration of time you and your dog devote to training sessions. Spending too long on training exercises will start to bore the dog. Try limiting training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

Treats are necessary when teaching a dog fancy tricks like rolling over. Begin by getting the dog to lay down. Then, hold the treat over your dog’s head and swipe it above and around his head, causing him to roll over. He will follow the treat by rolling over. Say “roll over” as he performs the action so that he’ll learn the command. Be persistent and do not give up; it might take a while but will be worth it once they learn it.

Avoid accidents when toilet training your puppy. Learn your dog’s signals, so you can anticipate the need to go out. Common ones include whining, pacing and even consistent staring. Do not hesitate when you see your dog do that. Get outside right away to the dog’s favorite spot. Make sure you do plenty of praising when he does it right. Do this consistently and he will always let you know when he needs to go outside.

When giving commands to your body, your tone and volume level should remain the same. This tone tells the dog that you mean business and that they need to obey. Good consistent tones also let your dog know when tones are sharp for discipline or for a command that is not punishment.

Make sure your dog knows how to obey, to reduce the frequency of their barks. Each time your dog barks, wave a treat in front of him and voice your command. Once your dog has stopped barking, you can award it with a treat. Repetition will ensure the dogs learns that quiet is a good thing.

When training your dog make sure you always get his attention in the same manner. Begin each command by using his name. You can get their attention by doing this and then use the command. Dogs quickly recognize their name which allows you to get their attention.

Be consistent when training your dog. Everyone that works with your dog should use the same commands, as well as the same techniques. Your pet will have a better time at learning once it knows what response to expect from his behavior.

Dog Understand

If you teach your dog the right way to act at the beginning you will have a good dog. Bad habits are hard to break, so start training your dog early. Don’t feed your dog scraps if you don’t want want him begging at the table.

Make sure your dog understand he does not need to respond to the word “no”. Instead, use positive reinforcement to encourage positive behaviors and gloss past the results that are not what you want. The word ‘no’ itself is not enough to make your dog understand they need to stop what they are doing. Dogs need tailored training to pull through.

Never reward bad behavior with the intent of quickly ending a certain behavior. This makes the dog feel like he holds the control. For example, you should avoid offering a treat to the animal to stop it from barking.

Be consistent when training your dog. If more than one family member is training your pet, make sure they all you the same commands, rewards and discipline. The dog will have an easier time learning if he has only one set of commands to learn and if he knows what response each behavior will receive.

Is your dog getting its ideal diet? A dog who is not eating a healthy diet is much more prone to hyperactivity, bad behavior and aggressiveness. Consider changing your dog’s diet to something more species-appropriate, and he’ll have long-lasting, consistent energy all day. Consult your veterinarian about any special dietary needs that your dog might require.

Implement the tips you’ve just read, and canine training will come naturally to you. You will have a better-behaved dog and a happier, healthier home. When you employ training techniques such as those listed here, you will have an easier time training your dog, especially when you practice patience and stay consistent.

Start your training by teaching the “down” command to your dog. This command is a basic one that can be built upon. Teaching your dog the down command can be extremely useful.
