Maximize The Time Spent Training Your Dog

No dog should ever end up in a shelter because of bad behavior! The truth is that a bad owner who didn’t train them is to blame. A well trained dog can become a happy, healthy, and well adjusted member of the family. Training your dog can be simple to do, if you use the following steps.

Give your puppy his own toys that he can chew to remove pain due to teething, and keep him away from chewing other items. Give it an actual chew toy in its place. If painful teething is the problem, let the puppy chew on a wet washcloth that has been frozen.

When you verbally correct your dog, do it quickly and concisely. Don’t rant on to the dog about the thinks that he did wrong. Simply tell them no an instead steer them towards what you’d like them to do. Do not scream, but rather use a loud and firm voice so they understand that you are serious.

If you house train your puppy, keep in mind that everything that goes in is eventually coming back out. Feed your dog a high-quality diet three times a day. This way, you will have a good idea of when your pup needs to go out, so that there is less of a chance that an accident will occur.

Chew Toys

Pick the proper size crate for your dog if you want to be able to effectively use the crate to train it. Don’t forget that puppies get bigger. Get a crate that is the right size for your dog when it gets older. The crate should be big enough for the dog to turn and lie down comfortably without feeling cramped.

Make sure that the only items your dog can reach are chew toys that are specifically made for dogs. The right chew toys should be given to the pup immediately. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.

Right at the moment they do the behavior you are trying to reinforce, give the verbal command of approval. If you do not have a treat you can reward your dog with, pet it and talk to it in a soft voice until you find a treat.

You must begin your relationship with the dog as the boss for any training to be effective. It is important for your dog to know that you are the one who is in control, so that he respects and obeys you. Avoid allowing your dog to lead you during walks. Instead, walk in front of your dog to show that you are the leader of this pack.

You can show your dog how to do tricks, get some treats. The first step is a simple “lay” command. Then, use the treat to draw his head from one side to the other. He should then roll over while following the treat. When they roll over, yell “roll over.” Keep doing this until they do it just with the command. Don’t get frustrated if it takes a few tries, once he learns this trick he’ll be the star of the dog park!

When house training your dog, be sure your dog has a predictable feeding and elimination routine. Then you will be aware when your dog needs to go outside to use the bathroom. A schedule is a great way to train a dog how to hold in their needs till they can go out.

Don’t bother with shock collars. These devices are expensive and do not always work as well as you would expect them to. These devices can stifle your dog’s natural reactions and have negative effects on even good or acceptable behaviors. These techniques don’t normally work.

If you pour too much information and training into your puppy, it will actually be counterproductive. A puppy’s attention span is short and it has a limited amount of energy, so sessions should remain short and positive. A training session that wears your puppy out is going to turn into an unpleasant memory, making him less likely to respond well to subsequent sessions, and more inclined to ignore what you are trying to teach him.

Pick a recognizable phrase to verbalize to your puppy during house training. Each time you let your dog out to relieve himself, use a phrase such as “go potty” so that he associates going outside with going to the bathroom.

As this article has shown, you can effectively train your dog. All that your dog needs is good training, the right amount of attention, and plenty of support and love from you. Follow the advice here and it will help your dog become a family member.

Dog’s deserve more freedom as their training progresses. Your dog will flourish with a good balance between control and respect. Try to remember that you shouldn’t provide a lot freedom at one time, as it could regress the training that you’ve been doing.
