Pet Supplies Plus
[MUSIC PLAYING] Pet Supplies Plus is
a thriving business. Since they opened the doors of
their first location in 1988, the company has expanded
to more than 370 stores across the country. And they are now the nation's
third largest pet store. Their 763,000 square
foot distribution center is more than 20 years old, with
the original electrical wiring and metal halide lighting. So the halides– the biggest
thing was you'd walk in and you'd hear
this buzzing sound. You'd look around and just– where's it coming from? It's the lights,
very old technology. Halides are very hot, very
noisy, and yellowish hue color. They didn't really light
up the room at all. Visibility was poor, which
made it difficult for employees to view their radio
frequency wrist units, which is an integral part of
enabling them to fulfill orders accurately and quickly.
To reduce energy
usage and costs, while providing a safer, more
comfortable and productive environment for distribution
center employees, they knew they needed to upgrade
to energy efficient lighting. But they didn't know how
much that change would benefit their employees and
improve their operations in so many other ways. And to have a light
that actually you can walk in and feel
like it's day time, and I think it helps a
team member for sure to be able to be more engaged,
to be more positive, and to be able to
do their job better. We always have forklifts
working lots of activity while we're moving from place
to place to fulfill our orders. The bright light of
the LEDs gives us a safer working environment
and helps us to see better. With the improved lighting, we
see people spending less time looking at an RF gun
or looking at a box, trying to figure out what it's
supposed to be telling them. We're looking at HVAC. I think it's the
next opportunity to improve the facility
and, once again, improve efficiency, lower
