Dog Training

Your Dog Is Smarter Than You Think – Bring It Out Of Him With Training!

Both you and your dog will be significantly happier once he is trained. If your dog is trained well, then you should both know what is to be expected of the other. After proper training there will be less to worry about and you will be able to live him or her home alone with confidence. Training isn’t always easy, but it is well worth the effort. Follow these ideas to help get you started.

When doing crate training, train your dog incrementally rather than trying to do it all at once. When they’ve settled down with the gate open, slowly shut it and pass treats through the gate. Start off only putting them inside for 10 seconds, and when they seem okay with that, slowly increase the time they are inside. If your dog becomes restless, you may be ramping up too quickly.

When tying up your dog, make sure it is not close to another chained dog. One dog’s chain might become entangled with the other, which could lead to serious injuries. If two dogs’ chains become entangled, it is possible that one or both dogs could experience difficulty breathing or even strangulation.

You must be willing to invest the time required for practice if you want your training to be successful. It isn’t unusual to have to repeat a trick dozens of times before the dog understands. Use the command over and over again until the dog gets the hint.

When potty training your pup, remember that whatever he eats must come out. Make sure that you feed your dog at least three times per day with good food. This will give you an idea of when to take your puppy out and lessen the chance of accidents.

House training should be built around a regular bathroom schedule. In order to regulate your dog’s toileting habits, you should feed him a good quality food at the same times each day. This will get your dog into a solid routine for bathroom breaks.

As you are working to house train your pet, select a single term or phrase that you will use. Every single time you take your pup to do his business, say something like “need to go out?”. It does not matter the phrase you choose, as long as you keep it consistent. This will keep him focused, and will teach him to associate those words with the action of relieving himself.

Make sure your dog is comfortable and compliant with his leash. This will help keep your dog and you safe when going for walks.

Make sure that both you and your dog enjoy the daily training. Playing with your dog helps build a stronger bond between dog and human, which encourages the dog to respond positively during training. Training can be enjoyable, but you should still make time just to play with your pet.

While training your dog, make sure both of you are having fun. By playing games with your dog, a strong bond will develop between the two of you, which helps the dog respond in a positive manner during training. Although training itself is fun, it is good to spend time each day just playing with your dog because you can.

Your dog needs an hour or more of exercise every day along with any training or bathroom breaks. Making sure your dog has enough exercise makes training sessions more effective and encourages regular good behavior from your dog. An exercised dog leads to having a responsive and happy dog.

Avoid accidents when potty training your dog. You need to know what they act like if they have to use the bathroom. They might walk back and forth or whine. If you see your dog doing this, take action immediately. Take your dog out on the leash and take them to where you want them to go to the bathroom. Reward the dog for using the bathroom outdoors. Before long, he will be able to ask you to take him out.

Training Sessions

To reduce your dog’s barking, try to understand what is causing it. Whether your dog barks in response to other dogs, people, certain sounds or something else, it is important to habituate him to this circumstance. The key is teaching them that their triggers are nothing to fear.

Keep training sessions short. Dogs don’t have long attention spans so make sure that your training sessions are kept short. If you want to do anymore training, let the dog have a play break for stretching and relaxing before continuing with their training.

Spray bottles are the perfect deterrent for bad behavior. Getting sprayed is a little unpleasant, and will give your dog the idea the the behavior is unacceptable. Before you know it, your dog will cease the biting behavior and just be playful.

Continue training throughout the dog’s entire life to ensure positive results. Even though your dog is an adult, it must keep learning. If you reinforce desired behaviors, you will ensure your dog’s continued obedience, and by continuing to discipline your dog, you will prevent negative behaviors from appearing.

Socialization with other people and pets is an important part of your dog’s training. This will help them to become social, so that they are comfortable with those around them. This reduces troublesome behavior in new places, too.

Vary your tone of voice when going through training sessions. Commands, corrections and praise should all have their own tone in order to help your dog distinguish cause and effect with his and your behavior. You need to talk to them in a firm tone of voice if you are correcting them.

Anxiety is what can cause a dog to chew things up. Dogs like to den up. Giving him a crate to lie in and a toy to chew on will make your dog feel secure and keep him occupied.

Training your dog teaches both you and the pet what each can expect out of the other. It sets rules and boundaries that makes the dog safer, happier and more of a joy to be around. Don’t forget to continue providing reinforcement. Keep his memory crisp, and do not let any deviations from acceptable behavior slide through. As soon as your dog gets used to training, there’s no end to what you can accomplish.

Early in your training, when your pet does something you want him to, give him a treat. After they get used to it, try giving them treats a lot less.
